History of Robert F. Koennecke

Robert Koennecke was born in July 1920, in Fredericksburg, Texas. His father was a farmer and probably expected that Robert would stay and farm, too. But after graduating from high school, he knew he did not want to stay on the farm. Robert came to Seguin about 1938 to attend Texas Lutheran College, and he decided to settle here. He had to work to pay his way through college, but he was a good student and a hard worker.

Robert joined the Army during World War II. He was sent to Germany with the Finance Department. After the war, he returned to Seguin and set up his own tax and accounting business. Through hard work and because of his competence and honesty, his business succeeded.

Robert Koennecke was well liked and respected by the community. He gave much of his already busy time to civic organizations such as the Lions Club, Mid-Texas Symphony, Tax Appraisal Board, and the TLC Board of Regents. At one time, he was the director of the Texas Lions Club Camp for Crippled Children, and he was always an active, devoted member of his church, Emanuel's Lutheran Church. Mr. Koennecke served on the Seguin ISD School Board from 1958-1966, for many years as the president.

When he wasn't working at his business or giving his time to other civic organizations, Robert found time for his favorite hobby - watching sports on television. He was married to Margaret Solmky, and they had one daughter.

Robert Koennecke's friends and family were shocked when he died on October 17, 1982, at the age of 62. He is remembered with a school named for him, a man who was never too busy to help others.
