Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to
climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. -
Each individual student has the capability to learn. Although we
exude different qualities and personalities, we are all adept to
learning new concepts, no matter how large or small. As noted in the
quote above, it is my firm belief that regardless of disabilities or
language barriers, it is my duty as an educator to teach each child to
their strengths and abilities.
Every child should be provided with an educationally rich and
stimulating atmosphere in which to explore and learn. The teacher should
act as their guide and facilitator as opposed to the only source of
information. I believe that children learn best through a cognitive and
constructivist approach to develop an intrinsic motivation and desire
for their own learning. Through this model, children will not only learn
in the classroom, but continue their quest for inquiry and develop a
lifelong love of learning outside of school walls.
You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach
him to learn by creating curiosity he will continue the learning process
as long as he lives. - Clay P. Bedford
