Welcome to my classroom.  My name is Vanessa Holmes and I teach Advanced Quantitative Reasoning or AQR. Students in AQR are usually seniors and need to have already taken Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.

I joined the staff at Seguin High School for the 2008-2009 school year although I had taught for many years before that date.   I graduated from Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Tutoring Times are Tuesdays 7:45-8:20 and Wednesdays 4:00-4:45.  I am available most other days by appointment.  Monday after school I have a meeting and will be unavailable.

Course Goals:

• The student will continue to build upon the K-8, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry foundations as they expand their understanding through further mathematical experiences.

• AQR includes the analysis of information using statistical methods and probability, modeling change and mathematical relationships, and spatial and geometric modeling for mathematical reasoning.

• Students learn to become critical consumers of real-world quantitative data, knowledgeable problem solvers who use logical reasoning, and mathematical thinkers who can use their quantitative skills to solve authentic problems.

• Students develop critical skills for success in college and careers, including investigation, research, collaboration, and both written and oral communication of their work, as they solve problems in many types of applied situations.

Classroom Policy/Expectations:

The best policy is for both the teacher and the student to uphold a high standard of achievement and work ethic.  To follow through with this, we all must respect each other and be prepared to work at all times.  As a high school student, you are expected to work hard and take responsibility for your own actions.  In other words, you are expected to do your own work and participate in this class.  Please come prepared to class each day with your supplies and a positive attitude.
