History
A.J. Briesemeister Middle School opened its doors to students in 1973. Since that time, the school has gone through several renovations and has now entered the new millennium of education.
Alvin J. Briesemeister, affectionately known to those around him as "Mr.Briese," served the school children of Seguin for most of his adult life. He was first a teacher and coach, then a principal of the high school, assistant superintendent, and finally, superintendent of Seguin schools for 16 years. Briesemeister was born October 28, 1896, in Ottine, a son of the late Julius and Martha Louise Briesemeister. He received his teaching certification from Southwest Texas State College in 1915, his B.A. from that school in 1925, and his M.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1937. He served as a history teacher and coach in 1926 in Seguin public schools, and in 1941, he was named high school principal. In 1943, he was named principal and assistant superintendent, taking over the duties as superintendent in 1949.
Mr. Briesemeister was active in numerous professional organizations as well as many church and community affairs."Mr. Briese" announced his retirement to be effective July 1, 1965, but a tragic and untimely automobile accident on June 10, 1965, claimed his life and that of his wife.
