Jim Barnes Middle School Visual Art
Middle School Art 1 is a year-long, choice-based course where students develop their creative skills through hands-on art making in drawing, painting, and 3D sculpture. Rooted in the foundations of art and design, students are encouraged to make personal artistic choices while developing essential skills and techniques. MS Art 1 is a foundational survey course that nurtures students' confidence, curiosity, and appreciation for the artistic process. 

HS Art 1- A yearlong course that provides students with an understanding of the elements and principles of design through a multi-media experience. The course aims to teach students how to draw, present a variety of concepts, and incorporate the elements of art and principles of design into every unit. Students will engage in practice, experimentation, research, project production, critique, and continuous review of new concepts. The curriculum is designed to build on foundational skills and prepare students for more advanced art concepts.

MS Art 2- A yearlong course for students who have passed the introductory course. This is an intermediate course of deeper exploration including clay and other sculpture media, painting, printmaking, and drawing.  Students typically engage in a project-based curriculum that emphasizes creativity and self-expression.

Program Highlights:

Students in MS Art 1 will be able to create work that can be shown publicly at the Seguin Art League, as well as on campus. They have the opportunity to compete in Junior Vase, and will participate in the Spring District-wide showcase. 

Students have participated in the Seguin Art League competition and won the Honorable Mention award.  Students this year will have the opportunity to participate in the spring.

Students have participated in the Jr. Vase competition and received the highest score of 4 and received medals for their efforts.  Students this year will have the opportunity to participate in the spring.

Student's artwork will be on display downtown and the Seguin Art League for the month of November.

Student's artwork will also be on display in the district's art showcase during the month of April.
